Rated 1 out of 5 by from confusing chart I ordered and received heater ribbon for my radiant heater but the charts from which I tried to determine the proper thickness of ribbon was confusing for an electrical layman such as myself. Therefore, I purchased ribbon that did not allow my heater to heat to its full power, barely warming a few inches in front of it.

What is the thermal density of this wire? It states 28W/in^2 but this is a unit for thermal flux not density. Can you please clarify weather this is suppose to be a thermal density or a thermal flux?

Asked by: wanb
Thank you for connecting with Omega, The watt density on the NCRR series heating wire is 28 watts per square inch. Please let us know if there is anything else we can do to help.

Is there a coating or an insulation on the surface? Can this be used to heat up a metallic surface without shortcircuit risk?

Asked by: Fredj
Hi Fredj, Thank you for the inquiry. These do not have insulating coating. So they cannot be used on an electrically conductive surface. Our heat tapes may be useful for your application; https://www.omega.com/en-us/industrial-heaters/surface-heaters/tape-and-rope-heaters/p/STH-SST-SWH https://www.omega.com/en-us/industrial-heaters/surface-heaters/tape-and-rope-heaters/p/SRT-heaters Best regards OMEGA

please can you tell me how much current and temperature it can withstand?

Asked by: mahadi46
The resistance heating wire alloy, 80% Ni, 20% Cr, has a max service temperature up to 1150 C in air. Please refer to following archived page for examples of current vs temperature in still air; https://br.omega.com/omegaFiles/heaters/pdf/NCRR_SERIES.pdf
